Dear Sirs:
I'm glad to see that you want to use this space and your time (which = your life) for something usefull. You were saying that you were undecided what to do with it and you mentioned a desire to derive money from it in the process. I'm glad that you didn't hop onto some store front program, or make it into some porn site or junk. It sounds like you are sort of lost with it and probably frustrated about finding a way to use it that:
1. works
2. People are interested in.
3. You are capable of.
4. Is a true good benefit to ....Humans!
5. Gives you the joy and sense of satisfaction, accomplishment, and adventure that you hope for or even never hoped for.
I would like to congratulate you on the inherent interest that the name humans.com gets. I directly typed it in also and that was to see if it was taken, or what I would find there. I suggest that you use a pen name if you don't want to use your own. People need to have a label for you. So this site is humans, it should be ABOUT humans right? There is a wide open feild of subject matter there, and you CAN get revenue as a result of pouring your efforts into something that is specific to humans. Here is a suggestion. You can use it as a hub. A central place where a number of web authors use as a front door to their sites ABOUT HUMANS. You can have your own content and allow other people to flow through your front page. This frees up the humans topic point-of-entry. You could even charge for this association to your door. I hesitate to use the term portal because of the concept being abused in the past. If you went that route, you would have control of who would have a link what kind of link, how it is displayed (how prominent, what kind of label, etc.) And you can assure priority and prominence to whomever you like. (includeing yourself) I'm glad that you are takeing security measures and are interested in that. I see the topic of cloneing has come up here. Is there a clones.com? or humanclones.com? I'm glad you kept your message board. A forum for people to communicate is an enormous asset to a web site. I was just about to suggest to a financial advisor & motivational speeker, that he add a forum to his organizations site. A good message board system is important. It's important that it not be all java and active X and crap. I encourage you to study page layout and navigation techniques. There is always more to learn. I agree with you that the total control of the page characheristics that text editors enable is great. WYSIWYG editors are sure usefull and powerful time saveing tools though. I plan on useing them to build sites, then useing note pad or other, to clean them up. If I had the humans.com name, I'd make it into a site to benefit human beings across the planet. Humans need a lot of things.
- good nutrition
- good health and fitness
- education
- jobs
- friends and family
- a home
- protection from damage
(freezeing, being shot, etc.)
- hopes and dreams; a reason to be and live.
Probably some other things and not in a particular order one this list.
If you make your focus on helping a lot of people survive today and tonite and all week and have hope for a full and usefull life. If you can teach people how to not get infected with diseases from poor cooking or sanitation conditions & practices. If you can connect those with needs to those with means. Then you will be so highly prized and valuable to all of the humans that you help; that you rescue. The man that doesn't get shot, the child that doesn't lose a hand from frost bite, the family that doesn't loose their house financialy, the marriage that doesn't fall apart. The person that doesn't throw away their life off the side of a building from despair. The air and water that is cleaner, the food that is real and clean, the oil that isn't burnt up & wasted. Do you want to do something great with this site? The possabilities are wide open. It's up to you. You don't hava to be a rocket scientist or a harvard MBA or Bill Gates, or Mother Teresa, you can make a difference being you....if you want to and are willing to. And you can make a site about music, or sports, or vacations, or art, or video games, or anything else under the sun or beyond to just a link away. All it takes is a link. It's a house of endless rooms. I suggest you get some site management software to manage the complexity of what your site can grow to be. You have iorganic interest in the name, so put something here to encourage that interest. Add a new thing every day. A new link or article; whatever. The message board helps, and you need to have something going on to get people to come back again and again and participate. You can do something quick and easy till you get something figured out. a bunch of links to sites that cover issues to challenge, inspire, and help people would be a lot better than a fairly blank page. Get some sponcers. (maybe scotts lawn products, or Genrel Electric, or Joes' Garage.) Be carefull of auto-search-engine subission schemes. They can sabotage your chances of good rateings. I think you are the type to do it the good old manual way anyhow. Take a look at the USENET groups and the web for html and for webmasters, etc. A lot of good info there. If you do stuff, and you'll team up with people; some out there who want to do the same thing will help you do the work. I know you have a lot of hopes, dreams and good ideas, so good luck and thanks for being there. We humans appreciate you. I'll check back this week to see if anyone has any response to this post, or have a question. Have fun; be good. :-)
